Passenger Elevator Replacement Project - Jack Baskin Engineering Building

Jack Baskin Passenger Elevator Replacement
Out of Service;  June 16 to Mid September

------- Background ----------
The passenger elevator in the Jack Baskin Engineering Building (JBEB) will be replaced this summer.  Construction work started the week after Spring Quarter finals (June 16th) and will likely take all summer to complete (completing early September 2014).  This elevator is one of the oldest on campus, starting operation in 1970, and has become less reliable over the last few years with many days of unplanned maintenance.

Please avoid scheduling meetings in the 3rd floor JBEB conference rooms.  Instead please use E2 conference rooms.   E2 Room 280 has been reserved all summer for meetings that typically locations on JBEB Third floor.   To schedule the E2-280 conference room send email to: instruct@rt.soe.ucsc.edu

If you or someone you know needs elevator access in JBEB this summer, the JBEB freight elevator is available for use.  However the freight elevator is tricky to operate and has very heavy doors that are difficult to open.  UCSC physical plant has hired and trained student operators and schedule them to work business hours M-F, 8am-5pm. Should help be needed outside of those hours, phone numbers for help have been posted on the freight elevators.  The JBEB freight elevator is located JBEB at near the North-West Corner.  Signage has been posted directing people to it from the passenger elevator.
