BME Common Equipment Listing and Budget
- Status (3/27/07): Autoclave, Glasswasher are purchased. Assoc Dean provided budget for project, additional purchases underway.
Biomedical Engineering Dept Laboratory Modifications (by room)
Click on the above link for details. This room provides common equipment for glass washing, autoclave and glass dryer. An area for making solutions is also planned. A couple of faculty refrigrators may be located here. Icemaker will be located in BE-281.
BE202A? Cold Room
Located within BE202, the Cold Room is a special purpose room. Door to room has window that is heated to prevent fogging.

Rm 201 |
nat gas |
Install natural gas service to bench on right side of fume hood. Cost estimate is $5592.00 based on 4/24 email from Ken Filice for Berman Labs Island Bench Connections, which was 2 labs. |

bench for W. Dunbar |
Bill Dunbar assigned one bench against east wall. |
7 |
201 & 201A |
ventilation noise |
Ventilation exhaust noise will distrupt sensitive readings if not eliminated. Dean Ricker has installed a flex duct with sound absorbing inner layer on one duct as experiment. It appears to work but only one duct has been replaced so far. |

201 |
task lighting |
Install lighting under shelving on both sides of both island benches and under shelves next to fume hood. DC looked at some inexpensive ones, 3 sizes of metal shelves 57in (have 33in & 27 in long - no hollow cavities. Need false bottom to mount lights to. Fisher Hamilton may have lights available for these. Need to talk with a rep. |

furniture |
move two existing 72" benches along east wall out of the way but keep them in Rm 201. |

July 5 email to Ken Filice on gas service to BE 205 & 201
Ken,
I've attached PDFs of four BME labs 201, 205, 288 and 292 for Kenny of George Wilson. They show the locations of the various gas services.
CO2 SERVICE:
To confirm our discussion in Rm 288, we would like a pressure gauge on the CO2 line where it enters Rm 288.
We need pressure regulators at the points of termination. The CONCOA 405 series single stage brass line regulator was recommended by Praxair, but an equal substitution is OK. (www.concoa.com)
We want to terminate at the incubators with a Swagelok quarter turn valve with a compression fitting. The thread should be mated to a hose fitting, and vinyl tubing will be the last leg.
According to the Praxair technical representative, if the copper line feeding the room is 1/2", it will need to be stepped down to 1/4" piping at the termination points.
At the Biosafety Cabinets you will be connecting the CO2 line to the plugged penetration on the right hand side of the cabinet as we pointed out this morning. The interior connection should receive a petcock with hose fitting. The exterior connection is CGA 320 (you should confirm).
Let me know if George Wilson wants contact information for the Praxair technical specialist.
RMS 201 AND 205
When we toured Rms 201 and 205 this morning I should have said that Rm 205 would get gas to the island benches and 201 would get gas next to the fume hood rather than the other way around. The drawings show the correct locations for natural gas service in Rams 201 and 205.
Thanks.
Randy

July 19, 2007 design meeting. Jack Emerson of GLP architects met with Bob V, RP, Prof. Pourmand, Julianna Erickson and one other staff member. Layout, services and other design issues for Rms 206, 207 & 208 were discussed at length. Rm 206 layout of benches will remain essentially as shown in original design, with minor modifications.
A 6' fume hood will be added to Rm 206. The island benches will have air, vacuum and gas service. 2 existing backup power circuits will remain on east wall and one will be relocated to south wall. Chemicals will be stored in a cabinet underneath the fume hood.
Rm 208 will house freezers and other equipment. Rm 208 has no backup power. Cylinder rack will be reduced to hold 2 cyl, possibly perpendicular to wall. 208V power in Rm 208 will be needed in northwest corner.
Rm 207 will house a 4' x 6' air table. The air pressure in the room is positive to the corridor, which is what is required.
